I heard something on the radio (KINK) today that made me stop mid-sip…They said Pennyroyal Tea was the first song Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love wrote together. Wait… WHAT? 😂 Because the historical record tells a very different story. Kurt wrote Pennyroyal Tea in 1990 years before their marriage and a demo was recorded with Dave Grohl. Nirvana performed it live in 1991. So unless there’s some seriously obscure story hiding in the archives… that radio claim sounds like a big fat lie.. I wonder who tipped them 😏 But here's where it gets herbaly-really interesting (because gossip is boring, let’s be honest): Pennyroyal is a real plant - Mentha pulegium, a member of the mint family. For centuries, European folk medicine used pennyroyal for digestive complaints and to stimulate menstruation. It also became associated with attempts to end pregnancies, part of the dark folklore surrounding this herb. ⚠️ But don't turn folklore into a DIY recipe ⚠️ Pennyroyal contains pulegone, and concentrated pennyroyal oil can be highly toxic. My tea-tip of the day: If you want to distill the life inside of you, skip the dangerous pennyroyal and make yourself a beautiful hemp + mint tea instead 🍵🍃🌿 Hemp for the wild spirit + Mint for the freshness = Nirvana 😇 A little herbal magic in your cup. ✨
