We went public over 10 months ago. Never going back to private!
With that said, it really depends on the intention for community. There is no right or wrong, just right for YOU.
If you want your community to stay super small, intimate, not fast growing but with some intimate shares - stay private.
I said βsomeβ cuz even when is private and small, most people wonβt shareβ¦.
There are communities w touchy subjects and understandably the owner wants them more privateβ¦.
If I had a community like this, Iβd create an environment for those shares. Whatever that might be that works best for the members. MAYBE locked calls for VIP only classroom.
βBestβ for the member, not for the owner (what she/he thinks is best or convenient).
When we went public - I asked, we voted.
When we rebranded - I asked, we voted.
When I locked chat at levels 5 then 6 as we grew and I noticed slippage - I asked, we votedβ¦.
A community is NOT a social media profile, itβs a co creation environment where you donβt βknow it allβ. And you have to stay openβ¦.
With that said, I outgrew many of my own mentors super fastβ¦ now them asking me for an advice on this or thatβ¦. Cuz I never stop learning, always open to improving and most def not knowing it all.
I outgrew them not because I am oh so smartβ¦ but open and learning and def not a know it all (like some of them) π

What kind of community is YOUR community? Public or private and why?
