Business update #2
To keep it short, I'll put it all in bullet points.
・Previous contract for queens/bees was cancelled due to excessive loses over winter. (that particular bee keeper may go out of business due to the loses) tried 5 other businesses only 1 had bees for sale, they won't arrive until the 6th month of the year. half my season is gone.
・Lures/bait for wild bees haven't worked quite just yet, but have seen dozens of scout bees scouting my property/baited boxes.
・bought & began prep on third plot of land, was only 3k for a substantial sized lot. costs me about 3k to hire a crew to clear the trees/bamboo.
・Potential future additions to the business is olives & olive oil. trees are very cheap and perform well here and are highly attractive to both Japanese and Italian bees. intend on planting dozen or so on 3rd plot of land. Alternative is blackberry/raspberry/blueberry, but they are low in crude protein requiring expensive & often risky supplementation.
・Public interest is increasing, both in the honey product and in hobbyist equipment though I'm far from having a sellable quality of equipment as a product.
・Company bank account etc, is up. deciding on what is best to do with the 25k I intend on investing into the company now that I have a company account. don't want to pay taxes on the money, but would also be nice to have business receipts on any further purchases. (I have business receipts from all prior purchases, but am sure it would be a mess legally to file, especially since all are personal property not company.)
・working towards finalizing a design for labels. found a beautiful blue, red, or green lided jar that is cheaper than the alternative and holds the exact amounts I intend on selling (100g - 200g)
attached some photos of the lands, boxes, jars & lids, and a scout bee gathering pollen for brood raising prior to spring swarming.
