A few years ago, Cheri let inside a feral cat named Rocki she had been caring for and put down a smorgasbord of her favorite foods.

After eating, she carefully cleaned herself and was about to head back outside when she suddenly stopped.

She turned and looked at Cheri.

Then, instead of leaving, she sat back down.

She didn't meow.

She didn't ask for more food.

She simply stared at her.

And in that moment, Cheri had the unmistakable feeling that she was communicating something far deeper than "I'm hungry" or "Let me outside."
