Write something
Response To: "Hello and welcome!"
Hi Teresa — thank you for the warm welcome! I’m Jason, writing from, BC Canada, where I spend an unreasonable amount of time staring at sentences like they owe me money. What I’m writing: A nonfiction project that blends personal reflection with storytelling — the kind of book that keeps tapping me on the shoulder saying, “Hey, remember me?” Genre/goal: Narrative nonfiction / creative nonfiction. My goal is to get a full, clean draft this year without dramatically threatening to delete it every other Tuesday. Writing in English as: Native speaker — though some days my brain behaves like an ESL student who’s still negotiating with grammar. Biggest challenge right now: Momentum. I’ll have a great writing day, then suddenly I’m reorganizing my bookshelf like it’s a competitive sport. I’m working on staying consistent and not letting fear steer the car — it can ride along, but it doesn’t get to pick the playlist. One thing I’d love help with: Clear, practical structure guidance and line‑level clarity as I move through revisions. I’m good at generating ideas; I’m less good at making them behave on the page. My goal for this month: Finish revising two chapters and share one excerpt for feedback. Looking forward to jumping into the prompts, learning from everyone, and cheering on your wins. Thanks again for creating such a calm, encouraging space — my draft already feels safer here than it does in my Google Docs folder!

How Ancient Tablets Find Their Readers
“…how long had those tablets moldered inside that chest, waiting for eyes to read them? While I’m sure you will doubt the truth of the outlandish events they relate, my dear niece, in my transcription, I do not leave out a word.” 2021 “Cloud Cuckoo Land” Anthony Doerr Scribner Fiction FICTION NOVELS First Edition September 2021 This quote comes early in the novel’s framing device, where Antonius Diogenes addresses his niece while passing on the discovered ancient tale of Aethon. My Take: Doerr beautifully captures the quiet miracle of writing and storytelling — the idea that fragile words (etched on wood, paper, or tablets) can survive centuries of decay, neglect, and doubt to reach a new reader. It’s a loving nod to how stories outlive their tellers, especially fitting for a novel that weaves together ancient manuscripts, besieged libraries, and future preservation efforts. The act of faithful transcription becomes an act of hope and defiance against time.

What’s on Your Desk This Week?
Hello everyone, and a very warm welcome to our new members 💛 I know I’ve been a little quiet in here recently, but I’m very happy to see the community growing, and I’m glad you’re here. This week, I’m spending a lot of time writing content for my new website and finishing up some editing projects that are currently on my desk. I’m hoping to get them finished by the weekend, as I’ll be travelling next week. So, let’s have a gentle check-in: What are you working on this week? It could be a writing project, an editing task, a course, a book, a creative idea, or simply trying to get back into a rhythm. Share as much or as little as you like below. I’d love to hear what everyone is doing. #WritingCommunity #EditingLife #WritersCommunity #CreativePractice #AmWriting #SelfEditing #WritingAndEditingStudio

What’s on Your Desk This Week?
Back this week — and easing in gently.
I’m back this week after a trip to Ireland to sort wedding plans, see family and friends, and get a lot of important things done. 💛 I also let a few things slide — including keeping up with Skool and staying on top of my own writing and editing. I’m not always great at following my own advice, and I want to be honest about that. Sometimes we really do need to switch off and recharge. But sometimes we do not need to stop completely — we just need to slow down. So this week, I want us to focus on small, manageable writing and editing steps for those seasons when life feels a bit overwhelming. Not full throttle. Just enough to keep a finger on the pulse and stay connected to the work. If you’ve been out of rhythm too, this week is for you ✨
