Cross lateral movements is a term that gets thrown around in the Brain Gym space. They’re any movement that involves using opposite sides of the body at the same time, opposite arm and leg, or both arms, legs, eyes, hands or feet. Cross lateral movement encourages both sides of our brain to work simultaneously; which is essential for whole brain learning and processing. Some easy examples of cross lateral movement are; Crawling Skipping Marching (with correct arm swing) Opposite toe touches Cross crawls I’ve made a video with a couple of examples, brain gym and non-brain gym movements. If your child skipped, delayed, or barely spent time crawling, or never crawled properly, get them doing these cross lateral movements as much as possible.
