I've seen what happens when we expect writing to be good too soon.
We write. ✍️
Then we stop. 🛑
We judge. 😠
Rewrite. ✍️
Stop. 🛑
Question. ❓
Delete. ❎
Try again.
And somewhere in all that trying to make the story better, we stop telling the story.
We lose what we wanted the story to become from thinking of what it should be. 😞
This is why I believe in imperfect writing.
Having that first draft messy is the way to go! 😁
Your first draft doesn't have to prove you're a writer. ✍️
It doesn't have to impress your future reader. 📖
It doesn't even have to sound like the final book. 📕
What it does need is to be written. ✍️
Then it gives you something to work with.
You might discover something while you're writing that changes the chapter.
And that’s GOOD.
You might realize a memory belongs somewhere else. 💭
GOOD.
You might write something and know immediately:
Yeahhhh...that's going to need some work. 😂
Also GOOD.
Make a note and keep moving. 📝
There will be a time for editing.
Right now?
Let the story come out before you start telling it everything that's wrong with it. 🙌
