Welcome to The Reselling Standard: My Story & Our Mission
Hey everyone, welcome! I’m James, founder of Open Outfit and part-owner of a wholesale business supplying vintage and pre-owned clothing. Over the last few years I’ve: - Sold over 100,000 items online. - Personally listed and processed 120,000+ items. - Grown Open Outfit to £600K revenue last year. - Co Owner of a wholesale operation which processes up to 80,000+ items every month. So I’ve seen reselling from both sides: the day-to-day grind of listing and shipping thousands of items, and the bigger picture of moving stock at scale. 👉 But to be clear — this group is not here to advertise wholesale. This community is here to share knowledge, raise the standard of reselling, and support each other. Why I started this group I realised there wasn’t a single place where resellers could: - Learn what actually works in eBay, Depop, Etsy, and beyond. - Share strategies without hype or fluff. - Grow together, whether you’re just starting out or scaling into thousands of sales. That’s why I created The Reselling Standard — to build a community that sets a higher bar for reselling. 🚀 What to do next: 1. Drop a quick intro comment below — who you are, what you sell, and your biggest challenge right now. 2. Get involved: ask questions, share wins, and help others. 3. Remember: the more you contribute, the more valuable this community becomes for everyone. I’m excited to have you here — let’s raise the bar and set the new standard together. – James

Your Profit Is Made Before You Sell Anything
One of the most important numbers in this game isn’t your total sales — it’s your margin. Before you even list an item, you should already know: - Purchase price - Realistic sale price (based on market data) - Fees (platform %, payment processing, promotions) - Extra costs (shipping, packaging, washing, repairs) - A £20 sale can easily shrink to £5 profit (or less) once those are factored in. When you know your margin upfront, you can: - Avoid buying unprofitable stock - Price strategically - Decide when to liquidate old inventory - Run your business with confidence Margin awareness turns guessing into a system — and systems are what let you scale.

Are You Guessing How Long This Item Should Take to Sell?
In reselling, every product has a life cycle. Some items flip in days, others take weeks — some even sit for months. Before you buy, ask yourself: - What’s the realistic sale price? (use sold data — yours or market research) - How long will it take to sell? (30 days? 90 days? longer?) - Does demand shift with the season? The more you know these answers before buying, the less you’re gambling — and the more you’re building a real, predictable business. What’s been your fastest or slowest flip so far?
