Eye blindness with GLPs based therapies ?
🚨 GLP-1s & VISION LOSS — LET’S TALK FACTS 👁️🔬 You may have heard that “GLP-1s can cause blindness.” The research is more nuanced. NAION is a rare condition caused by reduced blood flow to the optic nerve that can result in sudden, painless vision loss. 🔴 Semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy): Has the strongest NAION safety signal. Observational studies have found an association, but association does not necessarily prove causation. 🟡 Tirzepatide (Mounjaro/Zepbound): Evidence is still limited and developing. ⚪ Retatrutide: Not enough long-term human data yet to determine NAION risk. It’s also important to remember that diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and sleep apnea are themselves NAION risk factors. ⚠️ Sudden, painless vision loss or a new dark/gray area in one eye requires urgent medical evaluation. 🔬 READ THE RESEARCH: JAMA Ophthalmology — 2024 Semaglutide & NAION https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaophthalmology/fullarticle/2820255 JAMA Ophthalmology — 2025 37.1-million-person analysis https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaophthalmology/fullarticle/2830475 JAMA Ophthalmology — 2026 Semaglutide vs. SGLT2 inhibitors https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaophthalmology/fullarticle/2844873 EMA — 2025 NAION classified as a very rare side effect of semaglutide. https://www.ema.europa.eu/en/news/prac-concludes-eye-condition-naion-very-rare-side-effect-semaglutide-medicines-ozempic-rybelsus-wegovy 📚 Education over fear. Eli Lilly 🤐
They never cease to amaze me. I don't think it will effect the gray market but some websites will go down. https://www.morningstar.com/news/marketwatch/20260812124/eli-lilly-is-suing-pharmacies-and-peptide-vendors-over-sales-of-the-next-big-weight-loss-drug-retatrutide
