What if you could treat your intrusive thoughts like an inefficient assembly line in a factory?
My name is Michael, and I’ve been struggling with OCD since childhood.
I also spent my career fixing factories and fulfillment centers using Lean Manufacturing principles.
For years, I lived in a state of "high-alert," where a simple one-second handshake or a "scary" thought could trigger a "mental funeral".
One day I wondered: What if we treated our mind like a factory? What if we labeled some of our intrusive thoughts as mental waste? What if we define some of our compulsions as measurable inefficiencies?
Here I share how I applied the principles of "Lean" and "Six Sigma" as an additional tool for my own recovery. By identifying the 8 key Mental Wastes (D.O.W.N.T.I.M.E) and using tools like Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), I will show how I “streamlined” my own mind, and improved my "factory", reducing the rates and intensity of my own intrusive thoughts.
