Most filmmakers have a script, a dream, maybe a deck… and then they wonder why investors don't jump in with them. Here’s the truth - Funding usually unlocks when risk goes down by creating leverage.
So instead of starting with, “Can you fund my movie?” start with the highest-risk question in the project. Can we prove the audience wants this? Can we prove the concept works? Can we prove the team can execute? Can we prove there is a path to revenue, distribution, or meaningful traction?
Every time you answer one of those questions with evidence, you create leverage. That leverage might be a teaser, proof-of-concept, audience test, presales, LOIs, attachments, partnerships, or early customer demand.
The goal is not to magically convince someone to believe in you. The goal is to remove enough doubt that the opportunity becomes harder to ignore. Start at the riskiest point. De-risk it. Create leverage. Then use that leverage to unlock the next layer of funding. That is how you move from “I have an idea” to “I have momentum.”
