Not "how would you cope." Not "how would you recover." But, what would you actually do? Because here's the question nobody asks: What could you become if it did? It was my wifes birthday, we had a 1 year old crawling around, and we were planning to go out for dinner that evening, the first time in years, to celebrate. I was obviously eager to get home, and I must have been distracted, and as a result, I had an accident and subsequently lost my business, in a minute. My succesful landscaping and horticulture career which had taken years to grow, was literally gone that afternoon. At the time it felt like the floor giving way. I had no plan, no backup, nothing. A few weeks later I heard a piece of music coming from another room, and so I followed the sound. It was coming from the tv, and as I sat watching, listening, I thought to myself "How hard can that actually be?" Until that point in my life, I had virtually no computer experience beyond raising invoices. I had no contacts. No relevant experience Nobody who thought I had any business trying — and some of them told me so. Eighteen months later I was working on one of the biggest productions the BBC had to offer, and every day, I get reminded of how I succeeded. I can turn on, usually around 4pm, and there it is. My name on the screen, proving I was right and they were wrong. None of that happens if the business doesn't fail first. I didn't choose the ending. I chose what I did with the wreckage. So, genuinely, what would you do if it all fell apart tomorrow? Not the polite answer. The real one. What's the thing you'd finally let yourself try, if you no longer had a reason not to? I was reminded of this the other day, when we were going back through some of our memories, and a photo of my youngest, crying her eyes out, suddenly appeared, reminding us of the day she threw the biggest tantrum, after her sister caught her cheating.⁣ We'd been playing the game Pairs, and after her sister claimed there was cheating, she took a free go as a penalty, subsequently won the game, & needless to say, this was not the result my 6-year-old had wanted.⁣ After explaining to her that cheating was not part of the game, she went quiet, thinking about the chain of events. A few minutes later she came back and said⁣ “I know you said I cheated Daddy, but where does it say you that can’t in the rules.” ⁣ And she was right. Nowhere in the rules did it say that you couldn’t cheat.⁣ She had found a way to play the game, and by literally sticking to the rules & had used it to her advantage.⁣ Now, I’m not saying she was right to cheat, & we all know that that there are rules that we must follow but she had thought outside the box.⁣ Fair or not ?

Ever had that WTAF moment — where everything stops and you actually question why you're doing any of it? Guess what.. That's good, because that means you give a shit. I get it all the time, and every single time, it's what lights the spark to get me fired up again.. Too stubborn to quit on the people I love. Too pissed off at the ones who said I couldn't. Granted some people might say "That's not a strategy" but that's just how I'm wired, and it's got me to where I am today. If I ever have a second where I dont know how to begin, I have a trigger. I get Thunderstruck. I love everything about that song, especially the start, where before the vocals even drop, it's just building, and building, and you know something massive is about to hit? I even loved it in Battleship ( a great, terrible, action movie about adversity, aliens, fighting, and redemption) It's not a song. It's my catalyst. Adversity doing its thing. Winding up. Waiting to see what you're made of. I've stopped living with the fear, and when I hear it, I know that it means something's about to change. The doubters? Let them watch. The ones you love? Go build something worthy of them. And on the days it feels pointless.. Turn it up. Stay in the game and level up. So here's me putting it out there publicly. I'm focused on building Ignited & Inspired to 50 members by July. Six weeks. On the record. No hiding. Say it out loud. Then go and do the work.
