I was reminded of this the other day, when we were going back through some of our memories, and a photo of my youngest, crying her eyes out, suddenly appeared, reminding us of the day she threw the biggest tantrum, after her sister caught her cheating.
We'd been playing the game Pairs, and after her sister claimed there was cheating, she took a free go as a penalty, subsequently won the game, & needless to say, this was not the result my 6-year-old had wanted.
After explaining to her that cheating was not part of the game, she went quiet, thinking about the chain of events. A few minutes later she came back and said “I know you said I cheated Daddy, but where does it say you that can’t in the rules.”
And she was right. Nowhere in the rules did it say that you couldn’t cheat.
She had found a way to play the game, and by literally sticking to the rules & had used it to her advantage.
Now, I’m not saying she was right to cheat, & we all know that that there are rules that we must follow but she had thought outside the box.
Fair or not ?
