A lesson learnt, or taught ?
I was reminded of this the other day, when we were going back through some of our memories, and a photo of my youngest, crying her eyes out, suddenly appeared, reminding us of the day she threw the biggest tantrum, after her sister caught her cheating.⁣
We'd been playing the game Pairs, and after her sister claimed there was cheating, she took a free go as a penalty, subsequently won the game, & needless to say, this was not the result my 6-year-old had wanted.⁣
After explaining to her that cheating was not part of the game, she went quiet, thinking about the chain of events. A few minutes later she came back and said⁣ “I know you said I cheated Daddy, but where does it say you that can’t in the rules.” ⁣
And she was right. Nowhere in the rules did it say that you couldn’t cheat.⁣
She had found a way to play the game, and by literally sticking to the rules & had used it to her advantage.⁣
Now, I’m not saying she was right to cheat, & we all know that that there are rules that we must follow but she had thought outside the box.⁣
Fair or not ?
