So lots to update ... The fish from last breeding attempt , the "fix" of what went wrong and breeding AGAIN... And looking like a lot more successful this time around...πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸŽ‰πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯°. The greenhouse mesh has arrived in Sierra Leone, outdoor lights and submersible solar pumps. It's all go go go... 😁😁😁 The website is also going well. Lessons will be loading up soon. Thank you guys for being super patient over this period. Market day
Just realised that not everyone will have seen 'the engine' that drives the farm. I was having a chat with @Emil Moldovan and it was in our conversation and I assumed I'd posted itπŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£. Well here it is guys. This market did not exist when we first came to the village. It's the brainchild of the Chief who saw the potential of what we were aspiring to do and he set out to create a market. It started out as a few vegetables stalls.... Now....... THOUSANDS of people come here every Friday to trade all sorts right in our back yard.... All from a "conversation" nearly a decade agoπŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ This is the before market day and on market day(Every Friday). @Simon Nelson

So I've had to drive to the opposite end of the island this weekend to book into hotel with decent WiFi πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚. Feels like I'm actually back in Sierra Leone BEFORE the network was upgraded out there. So Peter has had to take these trips for the 3rd time now (8hr round trip) to come to this farm to get breeder fish.... We getting twice as many this time round . First lot we got females and males. Second trip just the males.... This one both again (just in case) πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. We have insulated the breeding station and turned it into a 'hot box'. So we should get better heating in there now. We have dug the well DEEPER and shored it up even more( another precautionary measure in case the rains are delayed.... ). The filtration tanks are going to be used properly, I've made sure of it . They were completing getting them ready last night. I'll post videos once Peter gets them sent later of the finished cycle system set-up. It's all hands on deck guys....... So we have 3 different breeding sources now all from different farms around the country. We will try all 3 this time round and Betsy gets a turn as well πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ. Today is going to be a busy day so had to be reachable so I could make sure nothing is missed this time round.... LETS GOOOOO!!!!!

Hey guys... More set backs afoot. So we learned last time that we needed to suspend the eggs, βœ…. We did that. We needed to warm up the water source, βœ… we thought we got it , but crucial mistep was keeping the entire thing constant throughout the night. We didn't put enough measures in place, so back to the drawing board... The eggs are dying... FAST Another lesson hard learned. The eggs did turn on us quite rapidly white this time round(the temperature has gone down significantly already this April, so we knew April was not good for THIS... buuuuut... Stubborn me tried anyways πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. This week we set about trying to fix heating up the nursery guys. Anyone have any clever suggestions to heat up water without electricity at night? The Solar will be a few weeks before we can ship them... need to maximise space in container(it's not cheap) So till then......My first thoughts is trying some kind of water heat exchange contraption??? Get some steel drums heat up the water over charcoal and introduce it slowly into the tanks during the night?? Anyone else think of a plan??? Also, we have some pesky fire ants on the rampage making our black soldier fly colony their free buffet. Anyone know of non toxic ways to keep those chaos away? Lets get these fish bred... I'm not taking defeat laying downπŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

It's not all bad newsπŸ€—πŸ˜ŽπŸ₯³
A few dozen hardcore babies did survive our mistakes.. they are darting about looking healthy so claiming a WIN βœ…πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ˜πŸ˜. Lets keep them alive and grow them out now while we fix the mistakes and try again.. Aaaand the Azolla is recovering well from sun shock this time round. Soooo another mini winβœ….. Going to try insulate the breeding house and add charcoal heating bins to increase temperature... And get round to digging in some moats to keep those ants out as well. Thanks for the suggestions guys πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ‘πŸŽ‰πŸ’ƒπŸ•Ί.. Lets GOOOOO!!!
