So I've had to drive to the opposite end of the island this weekend to book into hotel with decent WiFi 😂🤣😂. Feels like I'm actually back in Sierra Leone BEFORE the network was upgraded out there. So Peter has had to take these trips for the 3rd time now (8hr round trip) to come to this farm to get breeder fish.... We getting twice as many this time round . First lot we got females and males. Second trip just the males.... This one both again (just in case) 🤣😂😂😂. We have insulated the breeding station and turned it into a 'hot box'. So we should get better heating in there now. We have dug the well DEEPER and shored it up even more( another precautionary measure in case the rains are delayed.... ). The filtration tanks are going to be used properly, I've made sure of it . They were completing getting them ready last night. I'll post videos once Peter gets them sent later of the finished cycle system set-up. It's all hands on deck guys....... So we have 3 different breeding sources now all from different farms around the country. We will try all 3 this time round and Betsy gets a turn as well 🙌🙌. Today is going to be a busy day so had to be reachable so I could make sure nothing is missed this time round.... LETS GOOOOO!!!!!

@Simon Nelson ye man. If anything, I'm as stubborn as they come pal 🤣😂😂😂. I don't quit once my mind is made up. One way or the other, it's going to happen. Lol. I could go the easy route and just order Fingerlings like everyone else, buuuut...... How are those people getting this done to supply me with fingerlings right???🤷.

@Simon Nelson 🤣😂😂😂. I knoooow riiight... They'd be far happier so oing it the easy way for sure 🤣😂😂😂. Seriously though, I think I have done a good enough job installing the ethos to the guys from day one Simon. From the very start , I was pretty clear on how I communicated the vision to the farm crews. It's not just a monthly payment they get, they know they have skin in the game on a partnership level as well. So to them ,they seem opportunity that they would rarely ever find working anywhere else in the country doing anything similar. I'm very cognisant to keep transparent to them just like I do on here as well..... Otherwise this would have never got to this stage at all I don't think.🤔🫣🤔🫣. I'm must be doing something right😂🤣😂😂
Sunday musings
So here's what you are actually helping to build guys..... 🐟 Catfish ponds + hatchery → nutrient water → gardens & duckweed/Azolla 🌱 Gardens + orchards → residues → BSF larvae + worms + animals 🪱 Worm farm → vermicompost + liquid fertiliser 🐔 Chickens | 🐐 goats | 🐖 pigs → manure → biogas digesters 🔥 Biogas → cooking + backup power 🌱 Biogas slurry + worm tea → crops + orchards 🌳 Orchards → food + feed + income 🛖 Restaurant + Retreat waste → BSF + worms + biogas ⚡ Solar + 🌬 wind → pumps, cold storage, hatchery, lighting Energy + food + fertility all feeding each other. The fish for me will start everything else off.. Whatever it is you are planning , you have got to get the homework done. Do the difficult stuff UPFRONT .. .. Have those conversations with whomever you want to serve. Decide early on what is going to make you the money to invest into your dream. I am a student of practical knowledge. Take the time to learn from the experts who are crushing it, then TRY IT OUT. 🤣😂🤣😂. Whatever your context, even if you are gushing with cash to invest... Start what I like to call 'dirty trials'... Use as little of your resources as possible but TRY IT OUT. Even the really successful farmers out there mostly all say the same thing. There's a reason they all say that... Just saying... Agro tourism is the future. I absolutely believe that. Especially if you lean on the 'organic and natural ' route we mostly came on here to learn from each other ... Just my Sunday morning reflection musings.... What's been your experience in your niche? As always, share freely guys. I love chatting all things community 😁😁

@Marama Elizabeth absolutely go for it dear. 💃🤷👌🙌🤗😎🥳
INTERNET 😭😭😭😭
So this network nonsense is persisting on these islands. During the day, coverage is poor to nonexistent and then I get back to the flat and it's hit and miss with the broadband 😞😞. Bare with me guys, I'll get this nut cracked one way or another.....🤔🤔

@Simon Nelson It's a abyss of poorly Built backbone being maxed out, that's why we're out here expanding it. The irony is we never get the privilege to enjoy it once it's fixed 🤣😂🤣😕🤣

@Emil Moldovan ye man... nightmare
Market day
Just realised that not everyone will have seen 'the engine' that drives the farm. I was having a chat with @Emil Moldovan and it was in our conversation and I assumed I'd posted it🤣😂🤣. Well here it is guys. This market did not exist when we first came to the village. It's the brainchild of the Chief who saw the potential of what we were aspiring to do and he set out to create a market. It started out as a few vegetables stalls.... Now....... THOUSANDS of people come here every Friday to trade all sorts right in our back yard.... All from a "conversation" nearly a decade ago😂🤣😂🤣 This is the before market day and on market day(Every Friday). @Simon Nelson

@Kaat Jacobs nope. I was born in Zimbabwe. Fate took me there and I just fell in love with the place...lol

@Kaat Jacobs It's a place I instantly connected with hey. There was just a home away from home feeling... Like I belonged really... It's hard to articulate into words tone fair. I've travelled a lot and never felt like that anywhere else really. I was just 'drawn to it'

Hey guys... More set backs afoot. So we learned last time that we needed to suspend the eggs, ✅. We did that. We needed to warm up the water source, ✅ we thought we got it , but crucial mistep was keeping the entire thing constant throughout the night. We didn't put enough measures in place, so back to the drawing board... The eggs are dying... FAST Another lesson hard learned. The eggs did turn on us quite rapidly white this time round(the temperature has gone down significantly already this April, so we knew April was not good for THIS... buuuuut... Stubborn me tried anyways 😂🤣😂😂. This week we set about trying to fix heating up the nursery guys. Anyone have any clever suggestions to heat up water without electricity at night? The Solar will be a few weeks before we can ship them... need to maximise space in container(it's not cheap) So till then......My first thoughts is trying some kind of water heat exchange contraption??? Get some steel drums heat up the water over charcoal and introduce it slowly into the tanks during the night?? Anyone else think of a plan??? Also, we have some pesky fire ants on the rampage making our black soldier fly colony their free buffet. Anyone know of non toxic ways to keep those chaos away? Lets get these fish bred... I'm not taking defeat laying down🤣😂😂😂

@Simon Nelson my apologies 😕 . The optimal is 26 to 30•C . Ours has been skirting between 18 to 22°C

@Simon Nelson that's actually not a bad idea right there for a long term solution actually. Build the compost stations next to hatchery. Another perfect "LOOP" scenario... Love it...!!! That's going on the list of things to do..💃🕺💃🕺
