How do we set boundaries with our clients?
Today I was thinking, how do we set emotional boundaries with our clients? Do we continue to listen to their trauma? Do we help them fix their situation? What is the best way to go at a situation like this? First off, WE ARE NOT THERAPISTS. Let’s start off with that mindset. | Here’s an example: | For me when I come across a client that is trauma dumping or is about to right away I put up this visualized emotional boundary around me and say : “I’m not going to absorb this story and this is not my problem to fix.”. “I am protected” . Yes listen to your client, hold space for them but don’t put yourself in their shoes. You’re still their Hairstylist. The end result of the appointment is still just about their hair. ✨BONUS: ✨ When I hold space for a client . I let them speak, talk, cry etc. Then I bring it back to their Hair. I let them know … “Hey, I hear you. I can’t make you feel better about that situation but I can make you feel better through your hair. What is our goal for hair today?” This allows them to feel heard but then lets you take lead of the conversation. I hope this helps someone today! I want to hear your approach… How do you set boundaries? Comment below ⬇️
