Spinning & Weaving Tools for Schools Grant Application
I just saw this Grant offering and thought I would share. It looks like an amazing opportunity to bring some quality weaving equipment into your classroom, providing an opportunity for differentiated learning across all subject areas. The annual Tools for Schools Grant provides up to $3,000 worth of Schacht equipment to schools and 501(c)(3) organizations. Applicants can request any spinning or weaving equipment they offer. If you or someone you know is interested, click the link below to learn more, review the guidelines, and submit an application. Applications are due March 1.
Spinning and weaving are powerful tools for differentiated learning because they naturally engage multiple learning styles, abilities, and intelligences at the same time. They are especially effective in inclusive classrooms where students learn in different ways and at different paces. Spinning and weaving integrate hands-on, visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning. These fiber arts naturally blend academics with creative practice, integrating math, science, social studies, language arts, and art. This allows teachers to differentiate by subject focus while using the same activity.
Spinning and weaving encourage self-paced learning and reward process over speed. This is especially supportive for students with learning differences, anxiety, or perfectionism.
Fiber arts strengthen skills many students struggle with:
  • Planning and sequencing
  • Sustained attention
  • Fine motor control
  • Problem-solving
  • Persistence
Spinning and weaving are particularly beneficial for students with:
  • ADHD (rhythm and repetition help focus)
  • Autism (predictable patterns, sensory regulation)
  • Dyslexia (learning through hands-on and visual means)
  • Anxiety (calming, meditative qualities)
Students can engage deeply without relying heavily on reading or verbal processing.
Learning can be demonstrated in different ways: finished textile or yarn, process journals or sketches, oral or written reflections.
In Short: Spinning and weaving:
  • Are hands-on and adaptable
  • Honor different learning styles and abilities
  • Integrate academics, creativity, and culture
  • Provide calm, meaningful engagement
  • Offer flexible paths to success
They turn the classroom into a studio, where every student can learn deeply—just differently.
