This video is GOLD
Holy shit, this young girl has cracked the code on Youtube shorts and is basically sharing it all with us! Jay Clouse brings a killer conversation with this one:
Starting a YouTube Channel while also working
Recently came upon this video where Ali Abdaal focuses in on creating a YouTube while also having a full time job. The video is super well made and he obviously has some great experience to share, having 5M+ Subs and all. Let me know what your favorite part of this video is!
Is your creation a hobby or a business?
So I've a question for all the creators out there (and in here of course). Do you consider what you do to be a hobby, a business, or a business potential? I started my YT channel as hobby (I found some workarounds and solutions to GoPro issues and made some videos about it). However, some of my videos were quite popular and I registered my channel as a business (and then it got monetized afterwards). The thing is, I really wish I had done that quite a number of years ago now. The fact is I'm able to bill a lot of things off as business and start up expenses. There could be more I could bill off, but I'm getting there as I become more business minded. So if there's one piece of advice I would give any creator is that from day 1, you should consider what you do as a business and treat it as such. Get an LLC, get an EIN, Keep track of each and every expense. The fact is, the sooner you start, the sooner you'll see the benefits. Just because you're a business, that doesn't hamper your creativity or your drive. What it does mean is that you can feel much freerer to pursue your creativity as now there's a way to claim back some of your expenses (which is nice come tax time) It can even drive you to create as you have goals and deadlines to meet (which can help drive you to create more content in a timely manner). Just my thoughts, I'd love to know what you think and hey, if you've any questions, feel free to ask!
Revisiting my old videos
A while back, I jumped into vlogging with ZERO research other than an obsessive amount of content consumption of vloggers I really liked. Ive come a long way with my editing capabilities and, while the chaos I created through lack of planning was BONKERS, I remember this season of life fondly. I learned SO MUCH through that experience: https://youtu.be/OhLjOdE09Oc?si=wvnU_-y_rBMOe32N
Constantly Searching...
I don't know about you all, but I am constantly searching for inspiration... both large and small. Moments from huge creators that i can take inspiration from, or a deep and telling story from a small creator where there was no proper audience to receive the greatness they created. Here are two recent examples i found. A creator twice my size, telling a story i would love to also tell! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tx95iN4ElpA&ab_channel=AlexRogers And a small creator, 1/6th of my size, telling an incredible story that hardly anyone has seen yet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsLbq649unk&ab_channel=AlexandraRobinson Both of these are places i am drawing current inspiration from.
