This week is a little bit special, depending on where you live. In Canada, we celebrate Canada Day on July 1. It's a day of parades, block parties, barbeques, fireworks, dressing in red and white, and yes, there may be some beer involved! There are festivals, outdoor concerts, and family-friendly activities, and it's the kick-off to the summer season. July 1 marks the anniversary of the Constitution Act of 1867. On this day, three separate colonies—Canada (which became Ontario and Quebec), Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick—were united into a single, self-governing Dominion within the British Empire. July 1 is essentially the equivalent to the 4th of July in the United States, which is Independence Day, and celebrated in much the same manor as Canada Day. Having said ALL of that, the cleaning challenge for the week is this: give your BBQ a good cleaning (here's a video to help you with that: https://youtu.be/VBSypa91vAw). You may need to do it again after the big day, but it will be worth it! Clean up your outdoor eating space if you plan to use it, and do the yard work so everything looks good for any company you may have. June 21 is Father's Day in Canada. I was thinking it would be great to celebrate all of the fathers out there, not just the Canadian fathers! It may not officially be Father's Day where you are, but you can still celebrate your father. The challenge this week is to ask a father what their big cleaning challenge is, and either do it for them, or give them a hand with it. It could be cleaning and organizing his garage, or tidying his workshop. Perhaps it is giving his "man cave" a super deep cleaning! Last week's cleaning challenge went well for me, and it was 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 satisfying. I spent an afternoon helping a disabled friend clean her baseboards and cold air returns. She is unable to bend over, or to get down on the floor. It was good to have a visit with her. We started with lunch, and then got to work. She lives in a 3 bedroom house, and I don't move as fast as I used to, so it really did take a whole afternoon to do it! What did the rest of you do for the cleaning challenge last week? I hope all of you are enjoying better weather than I am. It's still only averaging 6degrees Celsius during the day, and it is still raining, at least part of the day, EVERY day. It's hard to get much done outside. I can work inside, but I'm running out of things to do. This week, I am going to challenge myself to helping a friend who is disabled, and could use a bit of help with doing things like ceilings and walls. I volunteered my services for a day this week. I would like to challenge the rest of you to help a friend, relative, or neighbor who needs some help to do some spring cleaning. Volunteer to spend an hour, an afternoon, or a whole day helping someone who can't quite complete their spring cleaning on their own. They will appreciate the help, and you will feel good about yourself!
