There is a hidden compartment in your washing machine that the manufacturer knows about, your repair technician knows about, and almost nobody who actually owns the machine knows about. It has been collecting something for months And what is inside it right now is directly affecting the cleanliness of every single item of clothing you wear. Today, we find it. We open it. Let me ask you something that seems simple on the surface. When did your washing machine last smell completely fresh? Not the artificial fragrance of your detergent masking whatever is underneath And when did your clothes last come out of the wash feeling truly fresh rather than carrying that faint, inexplicable musty undertone that no amount of fabric softener ever quite eliminates? Most people who notice these things assume the machine is simply aging. That this is what washing machines smell like after a few years of use. They buy more scented detergent. They try different fabric softeners. They run an occasional hot cycle and hope for the best. But the smell returns. The clothes continue to carry that faint staleness. And the actual cause? It's sitting hidden in plain sight in a small panel on the front of almost every front-loading washing machine. It remains untouched, unexamined, and unknown. Every front-loading washing machine contains what manufacturers call a pump filter โ€” sometimes labelled a coin trap or debris filter. It is typically located behind a small rectangular access panel at the very bottom front of the machine, often concealed behind a kick plate that most owners never think to remove. Its purpose is genuinely important. As water drains from your machine after each wash cycle, this filter catches everything that should not enter your drain pipe. Coins ๐Ÿช™. Hair grips . Buttons . Lint. Tissue fragments. Pet hair. The accumulated debris of every wash cycle your machine has ever completed.

First off, I apologize for being a day late with this. We had a power failure yesterday, and it lasted for a few hours, causing all sorts of issues. I'm back on track today! Since the weather is warming up, it's time to move outside and get your outdoor space in shape for the summer we all hope is coming! If you have a deck, a patio, or a balcony, they have probably not had much love for the winter months. I know my patio has collected lots of dead leaves and dust, and the furniture needs a bath. What outdoor spaces do you have, and what do you need to do to get them ready for summer enjoyment? This is the challenge for this week. Leave a comment below and let us all know what you have to do, and how it's going for you!

Today, I am off to the Dollarama to buy a child's rake ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ to clean the dead leaves and stuff out of my flower beds. I want to get it done today as it's supposed to rain tonight. I'll probably have to buy a whole gardening set, but that's OK. I know some little ones I can give it to!

A hotel laundry manager with twenty years of experience told me something that I was not supposed to share publicly. One number. One temperature. One trick that explains why hotel sheets feel impossibly clean, smell like pure nothing, and stay brilliantly white for years, while yours grey out after a few months. That number is 160 degrees. And today, everything it means comes to light. Let me take you somewhere specific. You are checking into a hotel after a long journey. You are tired in a way that sits deep in your bones. You pull back the bedsheet and something happens that is difficult to describe precisely โ€” a sensation that is equal parts physical and emotional. The sheet is cool. It is crisp. It is so clean it almost has a sound when it moves. And it smells like... Not perfumed. Not fragranced. Not masked with fabric softener. Just clean. Purely, completely, honestly clean. You lie down and think, "๐‘คโ„Ž๐‘ฆ ๐‘‘๐‘œ ๐‘š๐‘ฆ ๐‘ โ„Ž๐‘’๐‘’๐‘ก๐‘  ๐‘Ž๐‘ก โ„Ž๐‘œ๐‘š๐‘’ ๐‘›๐‘’๐‘ฃ๐‘’๐‘Ÿ ๐‘“๐‘’๐‘’๐‘™ ๐‘™๐‘–๐‘˜๐‘’ ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘–๐‘ ?" You have tried better detergents. You have tried more detergent. You have tried fabric softener, dryer sheets, and vinegar rinses. And yet your sheets at home feel different. Slightly flat. Slightly grey. Carrying a faint warmth of staleness that you have simply learned to accept as normal. It is not normal. And the reason your sheets feel different from a hotel's has almost nothing to do with the thread count of the fabric or the brand of detergent used. It comes down to one decision made at the very beginning of every wash cycle. Here is what professional hotel laundry operations understand: home laundry guidance has consistently failed to communicate clearly. Temperature is not just about cleaning power in a general sense. Temperature is about what specifically happens to fabric, bacteria, and organic matter at different heat thresholds โ€” and the differences between those thresholds are dramatic. At forty degrees โ€” the temperature most home washing guides recommend for everyday laundry โ€” detergent activates and removes surface soiling reasonably well. Visible dirt comes out. Light stains respond. The laundry looks clean.

What if I told you that one bottle costing $3 or $4, sitting in your medicine cabinet can replace ๐‘‘๐‘œ๐‘ง๐‘’๐‘›๐‘  of expensive products in your home, solve problems from blood stains to mold to ear infections, and has uses so powerful that entire industries profit from you ๐‘๐‘‚๐‘‡ knowing about them? What if hydrogen peroxide is the most underrated, versatile, cost-effective solution you've been ignoring your entire life? I discovered 15 incredible uses for hydrogen peroxide that saved me hundreds of dollars and solved problems I thought required professionals! Keep reading to the end, because this will There's probably a brown bottle of hydrogen peroxide in your bathroom cabinet right now. You bought it years ago for cleaning cuts and scrapes. You've used maybe 5% of it. It's been sitting there, forgotten, while you spend loads of money monthly on products that hydrogen peroxide could replace. Stain removers. Mold cleaners. Disinfectants. Teeth whiteners. Ear drops. All of these specialized, expensive products can be replaced by one versatile compound that costs less than a single cup of coffee. I discovered this truth accidentally when I was desperate. I had a blood stain on a white shirt that I'd tried removing with three different stain removers. Nothing worked. I was about to throw the shirt away when I remembered reading something about hydrogen peroxide removing blood stains. I had nothing to lose. I poured hydrogen peroxide on the stain. It started fizzing immediately. Within 30 seconds, I could see the stain lightening. Within 2 minutes, it was completely gone. This four dollar bottle had just accomplished what ten dollars worth of stain removers couldn't. That moment started my research into what else hydrogen peroxide could do. What I discovered was ๐‘’๐‘š๐‘œ๐‘ฃ๐‘Ž๐‘™ - Pour directly on fresh blood stains, let fizz, blot clean. Works on fabric, carpet, mattresses. More effective than any commercial stain remover.

I hope spring is in the air where you are๐Ÿฃ , and that the nice weather is motivating you to freshen up the inside of your home! If you are like me, you likely have a spring cleaning list as long as your arm,๐Ÿ“ƒ and you're wondering where you will get the time to do it all! For me, the best way to "๐‘’๐‘Ž๐‘ก ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘’ ๐‘’๐‘™๐‘’๐‘โ„Ž๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘ก" is one bite at a time! I like to do one room each day. Sometimes, due to time constraints or physical limitations, I have to quit half way through. It's OK if you don't have the time or energy to complete a huge task all at once. At least you started, and that's a big step to getting finished! Just get back at it the next day. This week - if you haven't already - get a start on your spring cleaning. Make a list of what you want to accomplish, and put it on the fridge where you can see it - DAILY! Begin with a task that is easy to do in a short amount of timeโŒ›. That way, you get "๐‘–๐‘›๐‘ก๐‘œ ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘’ ๐‘”๐‘Ÿ๐‘œ๐‘œ๐‘ฃ๐‘’", and you get to cross one task off the list on the first day. You'll feel like you've accomplished something! Reward yourself with something special, like watching a movie, enjoying a favorite coffee drink, or perhaps a bubble bath๐Ÿซง๐Ÿ›€๐Ÿป๐Ÿซง. In the comments below, tell us what your plan of attack will be for this sometimes overwhelming springtime ritual. Are you an ๐‘Ž๐‘™๐‘™-๐‘–๐‘›-๐‘œ๐‘›๐‘’-๐‘‘๐‘Ž๐‘ฆ kind of person, or ๐‘ ๐‘™๐‘œ๐‘ค ๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘‘ ๐‘ ๐‘ก๐‘’๐‘Ž๐‘‘๐‘ฆ? What is the first task you plan to tackle? What reward system do you plan to use when you complete a task? Let's do a mid-week check-in to help each other stay motivated. Now, let's ๐Ÿ"๐‘†๐‘ƒ๐‘…๐ผ๐‘๐บ"๐Ÿชปinto action!

Pantry is done. That was probably my most dreaded task in the whole house! My pantry lives in my utility/laundry room, so today, I'll tackle the rest of the room. I'm hoping it doesn't take too long!

Yesterday, I ALMOST finished my laundry/utility room. I just have to vacuum up the dust binnies ( with FANGS!), and mop the floor. That will happen this evening, as I have to take my dog for a walk, then get started on making supper. The weather is supposed to be warm and sunny ๐Ÿ˜Ž tomorrow, and the window screens are calling my name! If I can enlist some help from my brother, I may get the windows cleaned, too! ๐Ÿ˜
