🧘 Why Slack Time Disappeared: AI Filled the Gaps That Used to Let Your Brain Reset
Before AI accelerated so much of daily work, the workday was naturally punctuated by small, unplanned pauses: waiting for a page to load, waiting for a colleague's reply, waiting for a document to process, the brief gap between finishing one task and being able to start the next. These moments were rarely valued or even consciously noticed at the time, but they functioned, whether anyone realized it or not, as brief periods of cognitive recovery, small mental resets scattered naturally throughout the day. AI's speed has quietly eliminated a meaningful portion of these gaps, and a specific, underexamined form of fatigue appears to be emerging as a result, one that isn't primarily about total workload, but about the disappearance of these small, naturally occurring recovery moments. ------------- Context ------------- Cognitive research on attention and mental fatigue has long recognized that sustained focus benefits from periodic brief breaks, even very short ones, that allow attention to disengage momentarily before re-engaging with a task. Historically, much of this brief disengagement happened incidentally, built into the natural friction of work itself: waiting for something to load or process, waiting for a response, the small transitional moments between one task ending and the next beginning. Nobody deliberately scheduled these moments as recovery time. They simply existed as a natural byproduct of work that had inherent waiting built into it. AI has systematically removed much of this natural waiting. Tasks that used to require processing time now often complete near-instantly. Responses that used to take time to formulate can now arrive rapidly. The cumulative effect is a workday with meaningfully fewer of these small, incidental pauses, which means the brief cognitive recovery they used to provide, however unintentional and unnoticed, is also largely gone, replaced by a more continuous stream of engaged, effortful attention with fewer natural moments of disengagement built into the structure of the day itself.

You Don't Have to Master AI. You Have to Trust It Enough to Start.
I talk to a lot of entrepreneurs who feel like they're behind on AI. Behind on the tools. Behind on the prompts. Behind on the workflows everyone else seems to already have figured out. So they wait for the "right" course, the "right" tool, the moment it'll finally make sense. Here's what I've noticed: the people actually getting ahead aren't the ones who understand AI the best. They're the ones who were willing to look a little clumsy in front of it first. They asked it a bad question and got a bad answer and asked a better one. They let it draft something rough and fixed it instead of writing from scratch. They handed it a task they didn't fully trust it with yet, just to see what happened. That's not mastery. That's just reps. Waiting until you understand AI perfectly is the same trap as waiting until you feel confident. You don't build trust in a tool by studying it. You build it by using it and watching it earn its place. Perfectionism about picking the "right" AI tool is just fear wearing a research hat. Question: What's one task you keep meaning to hand to AI but haven't trusted it with yet?

Don't let AI speed rush your masterpiece.
In the era of AI, everything moves at lightspeed. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of urgency that FOMO feeling that if you don't release your project right now, someone else will release something better, or the tech will move on without you. Here’s the reality: Fast doesn't mean memorable. What will actually make your cinematic project stand out today isn't how quickly you post it it’s the time you spend polishing it. The tool generation might take minutes, but real craftsmanship still takes time. Where the magic actually happens: - Tightening the edit: Trim the fat until every frame earns its place. - Fixing the friction: If a cut, shot, or transition bothers you even a little, don't ignore it. Fix it. Small tweaks make massive differences. - Dialing in the audio: Bad audio ruins good visuals faster than anything else. Make sure the mix flows seamlessly. - Refining scenes: Don't settle for "good enough" generation if a quick re-take or scene swap elevates the narrative impact. The Ultimate Benchmark: Take the time to watch and re-watch your final cut. If you still genuinely enjoy it after multiple viewings without cringing at a single detail, that is your green light. Don't rush the release. Give your work the polish it deserves, and let the quality speak for itself.
