Your value is not measured by how useful you can make yourself to everyone else. Some of us learned that the safest way to belong was to be needed. We became the helper. The fixer. The dependable one. The person who rarely asked for anything because we were busy making sure everyone else had what they needed. Helping others can be a beautiful expression of love. But when your value depends on always being useful, rest begins to feel selfish, boundaries feel uncomfortable, and saying “no” can feel like rejection. You were never meant to earn your place by constantly proving your usefulness. Your presence has value even when you’re not producing, solving, or carrying everyone else’s burdens. Reflection When do I feel most valuable? Is it because of who I am, or because of what I do for other people? How might my relationships change if I believed I didn’t have to earn my place through constant usefulness? Today’s Practice Before saying yes to your next request, pause. Ask yourself: “Am I responding from generosity, or from a fear that I’ll lose my value if I say no?” Let your answer guide your decision. Practice believing that healthy relationships can make room for both giving and boundaries. Affirmation My worth is not dependent on my usefulness. I am valuable because I am human. I can care for others without abandoning myself. I am allowed to set healthy boundaries and still belong. Community Reflection Have you ever felt pressure to always be the strong one, the helper, or the dependable one? What are you learning about your worth beyond what you do for others?
