Hooks Aren't Useful Anymore.
Stop writing invisible headlines that get ignored, like a "Hey" text to your crush.
If you’re just "introducing a topic," you’ve already lost.
In an attention economy, you aren't competing with other creators;
You're competing with a biological urge to swipe away.
To get the click, you have to stop being a polite writer and start being a psychological architect.
The truth? "Standard" hooks are dead.
To get the click today, you have to stop being a polite writer and start being a psychological architect.
Here is what actually makes a hook "banger." status:
1) Primal & Emotional: The most powerful hooks tap into human nature, specifically the desire to avoid pain or gain pleasure.
Interestingly, people will do more to avoid pain than to gain pleasure.
2) The "Wait, What?" Factor: A great hook creates an immediate "open loop" in the brain.
It makes the reader stop and think, "I have to see what this is about."
3) Status-Driven: It doesn't just promise a benefit; it promises a change in status.
It addresses how you will be perceived by your "self, friends, and enemies."
4) High Relevancy: It connects to a current event, a trending topic, or a specific problem the audience is experiencing right now.
5) Click-Worthy, Not Click-Bait: A real hook leads to actual value (education, inspiration, or entertainment).
Clickbait is misleading; a hook is a promise that you actually fulfill.
What’s the best (or worst) hook you’ve seen this week? Drop it below and let’s roast/toast it.
