And Why Your Nervous System Holds the Key. Inflammation doesn’t always begin where we feel it. It begins quietly, deep within the gut-brain connection. When stress is high, sleep is inconsistent, or meals are rushed, the gut barrier weakens. Tiny food particles and toxins slip through, and the immune system sounds the alarm. This low-grade inflammation keeps your body “on guard,” flooding your system with cortisol and stress messengers that never switch off.
