Ever assume that once you're on a financial aid office's radar, opportunities will just start coming to you automatically? A lot of students operate this way, and it means missing out on things that were actually available the whole time.
Here's the reality. A significant share of the best scholarship and grant matches never get pushed out in a broad announcement. New awards get added throughout the year, and unless someone specifically asks whether anything new has come up, that information can sit unmentioned in an office that isn't set up to proactively notify every student who might qualify.
This isn't about the office hiding anything. It's just that passive waiting and active checking in produce very different results. A five minute email, asking directly whether there are new opportunities available, surfaces information that months of silence on your end never would have.
This is exactly the kind of thing Spark-ED exists to remind people of. The systems around financial aid weren't built to chase students down with every opportunity, they were built to respond when students show up and ask.
