Content and Discontent: A Group Call on Language Learning
You can feel good about your Spanish and still want more from it. Both at once. That's not a contradiction, it's a great place to be. In this call we'll practice holding both: - What to acknowledge: the progress you've made - What to keep working on: the gaps that still frustrate you We'll also look back at 2026 so far: - What went well - What could be better in the second half of the year Date & Time: - Rome (CEST): Monday, July 13, 4:30 PM - New York (EDT): Monday, July 13, 10:30 AM - Los Angeles (PDT): Monday, July 13, 7:30 AM - Buenos Aires (Argentina): Monday, July 13, 11:30 AM Duration: 1 hour Language: English Cost: Complimentary Facilitator: Walter Freiberg (aka Paco Ardit) Sign up below! Last week Iโ€™ve been to Austria. I spent a couple days in Vienna and in Innsbruck. The main reason I visited Innsbruck was an AI event. It was all about learning, connecting and networking to leverage AI at work. In German. I registered in advance. โ€˜What a cool opportunity to practice my German skills on a topic I like!โ€™ I thought. I welcome and appreciate these occasions when Iโ€™m abroad. And I also feel anxious, unsure, unprepared, and many other things. Both excitement and fear can coexist. As I considered joining this event (and as the day got closer) these were the other thoughts that went through my mind: - โ€œThis is not for you: youโ€™re not a native German speakerโ€ - โ€œThis is not intended for tourists, itโ€™s for localsโ€ - โ€œAI is not your niche, youโ€™re not a developer or business owner using Claude Code and agents all day long. What are you even doing there?โ€ - โ€œYour German is not good enough for thisโ€ - โ€œYou donโ€™t know essential AI vocabulary in German. What makes you think this is a good idea?โ€ - โ€œWhy are you wasting your time going to an event in a foreign language when you could go to a proper activity or excursion in the mountains (in English)?โ€ - โ€œWhy do you need to stretch yourself like this?โ€ I could go on, but letโ€™s leave it there. I could also agree with some of these thoughts and voices. There might be some truth here. And that doesnโ€™t mean that I should follow these thoughts or stop doing it just because the voice says it so. I can create distance and space, and consider it calmly and slowly. Also, I can interact with these thoughts. โ€‹ โžก๏ธ โ€œThis is not for you: youโ€™re not a native German speakerโ€ Says who? The event organizer? The part of me that loves selling me short? The perfectionist, the purist? Nobody said this is only for Austrians or for native German speakers. It could well be the case that +95% of the participants of past events were native German speakers, because this is a networking event that takes place in Innsbruck (Austria), in German, and is on a specific topic. The day I participated, I think I was the only person who wasnโ€™t from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland. I was up for the challenge. With fear and everything.

Hoy Hablamos Bรกsico, episodio 120.
ยกHola, oyente! ยฟQuรฉ tal estรกs? Y tรบ piensas: ยซยฟY ahora quรฉ? โ€

Chau Duolingo
ยกHoy he dicho โ€˜goodbyeโ€ a Duolingo!
