Week 1 of Homeschooling – The Honest Recap
The first thing we noticed straight away… the energy shifted. Not making 5000 school lunches and not being in the mad rush trying to get everyone out the door brought an instant sense of calm. Usually they wake up at 4:30/5 and still not ready to leave for school by 8am… There was no morning tantrums , separation anxiety, no frantic energy, just a slower start to the day 😮💨 The kids’ meals this week looked a little like: - Chicken wraps - Tuna poke bowls - Homemade pizzas - Toasties - Fresh banana bread - Homemade sushi - Homemade butter - Homemade ice cream - Açai bowls I felt this was the best eating fresh norish foods and actually eat it… Naturally, everyone wanted to be in the kitchen… and so did my nervous system 😂 By day two we changed things up and created a simple kitchen roster one child helps each day. That alone made a huge difference. Same with taking turns in general… because honestly, sometimes I even forgot whose turn it was next. Good old $2 calendar did the job. we still have Taj reminding us who’s day it is though haha Academics were light and intentional: - A bit of maths and English workbooks - Online learning appointment ready to start We decided to go with Kinetic for structured support second child free, third child discounted which works out to around $39 a week for all of them. The kids also earn points they can cash out every 6 weeks for gift cards, which will be such a great incentive. Movement wise: - Bike ride - Gym park stations - Plenty of outdoor time - Beach swims & some fishing not so much this week though. Little one started kindy this week too 🤍 We chose a part time kindy for her because it’s very culture based bush walks, beach days, time with elders, and visits to the oldies’ home. It also gives her 2–3 days just for her… without the boys 😅 Around the house, we: - Got stuck into planning an extension of the veggie garden - Started prepping to plant more food - Even high pressured the patio all took turns that was a bit chaotic water went everywhere yelling it’s my turn
