Dress Codes
I was just chatting with some of the other gents in the community and realized how between three men we had three different definitions of the smart casual and business casual dress codes. How do you all define the different dress codes? And where do most men learn this information?
I picked my definition up from sources like Gentleman’s Gazette and Wikipedia. My definition of the dress codes by decending formality
  1. White tie
  2. Black tie (evening formal wear)
  3. Semi formal/business (conservative, business colored suits and ties)
  4. Business casual (tie is optional but no jeans. Sport jacket combinations)
  5. Smart/elevated casual (jeans and collared shirt or sweater. Casual jackets and shoes)
  6. Casual (nebulous zone)
  7. Lounge/leisure wear (do not wear these outside of home or sporting activities)
However a man who is apathetic about style might categorize the formality scale as…
  1. Suit and Tie
  2. Polo and chinos
  3. Casual (nebulous graphic tee and shorts zone)
