From invisible artist to published comic creator
I used to be the artist who thought I was the best, then got to college and realized I was surrounded by people just as good or better.
I went from being the biggest fish in the pond to the ocean and it was overwhelming.
It sucked because I was too proud to think I needed to improve. I thought offers would just come to me. But they went to my peers instead, and I couldn't understand why.
The worst part?
People would see my work and say "wow, you should be famous" while I knew I hadn't actually achieved anything. That praise felt like a slap in the face.
But then I became a professor and saw the need firsthand. Students telling me "No one has ever taught this before," "I've never been able to understand this before," "Why has no other professor taught me this?" They were stuck exactly where I used to be.
Which led me to teaching sequential art and visual storytelling full-time, growing to 123k followers on TikTok in 5 months with educational content, building a 1.2k person community, and writing and publishing multiple comic issues professionally—including developing my own comic that people are invested in and want to purchase.
