When Your Child’s Reaction Pulls You In
Last night I ran this week’s Energy-Wise LIVE call around a question that comes up so often in parenting:
“Why does this particular behaviour get to me so much?”
The session was called:
When Your Child’s Reaction Pulls You In
I used the call to look beyond simply saying:
“My child triggered me.”
and explore what may actually be happening underneath that reaction.
I covered:
  • what can become emotionally active in us during a difficult parenting moment
  • why fear, anger, pressure or helplessness can appear so quickly
  • where some familiar triggers may have begun
  • why something happening today can stir a reaction that feels much bigger than the present situation
  • how what becomes active in us can become part of the shared emotional space between parent and child
  • and why becoming conscious of that gives us another place to begin creating change
A big part of the session was also making an important distinction:
Becoming aware of what is happening in us is not the same as blaming ourselves for everything happening with our child.
It is about recognising one part of the interaction that we can become more conscious of.
The replay is now loaded inside the Energy-Wise Parenting Hub. 🌿
This session may be particularly useful if you’re parenting a sensitive, reactive, ADHD or neurodivergent child and notice certain behaviours seem to push your emotional buttons almost instantly.
Recorded: Thursday 10th September
Time: 8:00pm AEST, Melbourne/Sydney, Australia
If this is something you’d like to explore, you’re very welcome to come into the free Energy-Wise Parenting Hub, become part of the community and participate in the conversations there.
As you get involved, you’ll also gain access to the Energy-Wise LIVE replays, including this session.
