Vintage gear appreciation post!
My new acquisition! A Tama Imperialstar Mastercraft stainless steel. As far as I could tell it's a 1980. I'm super stoked 'cause I always wanted one of those. It's missing the snare rollers, but luckily since Tama reissued the bell brass as part of their regular lineup, I was able to order new ones from Hoshino, so no need to spend big money on Ebay for old beat-up ones. Can't wait to hear this baby sing! I've been cleaning it up but it's in great shape considering it's older than even me!!

Take care of your bearing edges
One thing I learned over time is how important the bearing edges are to the sound of a drum. Especially working in retail in a busy drum shop, I unboxed and put together dozens of new kits and re-conditoned a ton of used kits. I came to understand that shape and cut of bearing edges is one of, if not the most impactful sound modifier. That's part of why I like Tama so much, you can't get that special tomtom tone without their special cut. I started using this DrumDial conditioner a while back, and it's great. Check it out!

Exact opposites
I'm gonna try the db zero to record kick using my ACD game changers and midi out. I used that metal kick plate to create samples. It sounds great, but then the kick is in everything, so forget edits... Two completely opposite ends of the spectrum. Which one would you choose?
