I had a 30min intro call with the owners of a GovCon software business today and it went really well! My only goal in the first call is to meet the owner(s) and get a sense of who they are as people.
- Do they seem honest?
- Do they have a good reason to sell?
- Whatโs the the story of their business?
- Is this someone I might want to partner with?
To do that, I try to make the call as casual as possible and let them talk as much as possible. The biggest risk to ANY deal is a misalignment with the seller so Iโm trying to determine if this is someone I could get to know, like, and trust.
Canโt answer that after one call but itโs step #1. The owners I meet today seem like great guys, real GovCon tech nerds looking to de-risk by selling a majority stake while rolling minority equity. Exactly what I like to see.
Now, on to NDA and initial info review!! ๐ฅ
