You mentioned the other day about using the VBT with sHSPU this is something I played around with when following some sHSPU progressions too a few weeks ago.
I prescribe it usually in an AMRAP -2 or 3 format but have since changed to AMRAP VL as I think that’s a great auto regulator.
When encouraging speed preservation for someone’s handstand push ups what is it you are trying to achieve? Is it as simple as training good movement mechanics to sustain rep speed/ minimise grinding reps that induce occlusion faster?
