Use a limited palette, such as red, yellow, blue, white, and brown. Mix all your secondary colors. Using a limited palette is one of the easiest ways to achieve color harmony. If you need help, watch the color crash course in the classroom. 😊
This week’s challenge is to finish your paintings earlier than you think you should. Get to about 90% finished then stop. This will prevent you from overworking your pieces, which can be easy to do. 🎨 Share your pieces here. 😀
Paint a piece on any size and practice pulling out the focal point. If you need help, you can reference the video called “pulling out the focal point” in the classroom. Be sure to post it as a comment on this post when you’re done so everyone can see. 😀
I decided to open up the first process video to all members. Check it out! 👀 Your mini challenge this week is to create a painting (any size) with three colors plus white. No time limit. Limiting our color palette helps us create more color harmony in our paintings.
Create a very small abstract (maybe 4x6 or 5x7) using just three colors in no more than 3 minutes. Post your results in the comments. Complete the challenge as many times as you'd like. This will help you loosen up and be more intuitive with your pieces since there’s a time limit. Each week from now on, I will be posting the challenge on Sundays. Next week’s challenge will build on this one.
