BOLO Monday: The Brand Everyone Walks Right Past
This week's BOLO is J.Crew denim.
I know what some of you are thinking. J.Crew isn't exactly a brand that gets resellers excited. It's been around forever, and there is usually plenty of it on the racks. That's exactly why I wanted to mention it.
When everyone is looking for the same handful of trendy brands, sometimes the better opportunity is hiding in plain sight. I still pick up J.Crew denim when I find the right styles, especially if the condition is excellent.
What catches my eye? Modern straight-leg styles, wide-leg jeans, trouser denim, dark washes, and anything that still has a readable style number on the tag.
One thing I always do before listing is search the style number. Many times I can find the original product name, stock photos, and better keywords for my listing. It only takes a few minutes and can make a big difference.
As always, condition matters. I'm passing on excessive wear, stretched-out waistbands, and styles that look dated. I live in the "DMV"...Delaware, Maryland and Virginia area, so our thrift prices are higher than I'd like. I go to Goodwill on Senior day and get 30% off my purchases, so on that day I'll look for J. Crew denim. Sometimes I can find lots of J Crew as well online, usually 20 or 40 pieces. Most of the pairs I find cost me between $8 and $14. Depending on the style and condition, resale prices can range from about $25 to $50 or more.
Will every pair be a winner? Nope. But if I can turn a $8 thrift store find into a $40 sale, that's a brand I'm willing to take a second look at. Jeans are easy to photograph, measure and list.
I'd love to hear from the group. What is a brand you're finding lately that other resellers seem to be overlooking?
