I have a rental in Orlando that I manage. It was my previous residence and it was a new build (2020). I'm out of the country for work, and my tenant hit me up at the middle of the night, but I was asleep and missed his call. I woke up to a message saying the AC unit outside blew out and all the freon had dumped. So since it's night time they went and called the big hvac company in town to come look at it. Now I don't really like this big HVAC company, but the tenant called them while I was asleep, so nothing I could do.
They come, check it out. Said the compressor is gone and took out another few things with it, and all the freon is gone. They said my original warranty expired last year and that nothing is covered. They said I should replace the unit and gave prices ranging from $11k to $14k. By this time I'm in touch with my trusted HVAC tech and he went over to look at the unit. He ran my warranty info and *SURPRISE* the warranty is good until 2030. He was able to get the compressor through the warranty, saving me a bunch of money and a potential replacement of the unit.
This is a prime example of having a good team. I found my guy through Google last year and he had great reviews and was a mom and pop type business. I've used him for fixes at my primary residence. I can message the guy anytime for honest feedback. He doesn't upsell anything. I thought I'd share this "win" with you all.
