Good morning,
The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. -Psalms 18:2 NLT
I opened the Bible app recently to find the very first verse I ever highlighted. It was June 5, 2012. Fourteen years ago. Shoutout to YouVersion for keeping the receipts — because I didn't know.
I don't know exactly what I was feeling that day. But I know the season. I was a few months away from finishing my master's degree. I was also losing family members during that same stretch of time. Life was heavy.
And here's the truth about heavy seasons: the last thing you want to think about is a budget. Saving feels pointless. Making a good financial decision feels impossible when everything else feels like it's falling apart.
But I did graduate that year. I actually had a job offer before I even walked across the stage. Was life still hard? Yes. But I was still able to show up for myself. Talking to God consistently helped me hand over the things I couldn't carry or fix — so I could stay focused on being a good student and stepping into that new role.
That's what leaning on God actually looks like in practice. You don't stop struggling. You stop carrying it alone.
Here's what I share with my clients — stewardship doesn't require perfect circumstances. It requires something steady to hold onto when you aren't. For me, that steady thing is God.
Every struggle I face, I want to bring to Him first. He can handle it. This verse is proof — it's full of everything you need in a hard moment. A rock. A fortress. Protection. Safety.
The path to financial freedom is not a straight line. There will be up seasons and down seasons. In the down moments, you need something to keep you moving. In the up moments, you need something to keep you from slipping back.
God is both.
This Week's Action Step
Talk to God about one thing you are struggling with right now — financial, relational, career, anything. Ask Him to be your support during this season.
Reflection Question
What season did you think you wouldn't survive — but you did?
Prayer of the Week
Dear God, thank you for being my support in hard seasons. Teach me to lean on you always — not just when things fall apart. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Have a great week!
