128. Stop telling yourself you're behind.
The idea of “getting ahead” or “falling behind” is completely made up.
Where you’re “supposed to be” is based on an outdated cultural set of beliefs…
And our worried survival minds love to check if we’ve done “enough” compared to others around us.
You “should have” a certain amount of money by now…
You “should have” a certain depth of relationship by now…
You “should have” a certain amount of fun life experiences by now…
But let’s be real…
Do you know anyone your age who has a ton of money, a perfect relationship, and a boatload of fun experiences?
No.
We can’t have it all…
At least not in our twenties.
Some of us have invested all of our time and money into travelling, partying, and cool life experiences.
Some of us have invested into building a life with someone.
Some of us have invested into getting a mortgage as early as possible.
Nobody has it all, but our survival minds love to focus on the areas that we lack, instead of the areas where we’ve excelled.
When those thoughts of being “behind” arise, recognise they are not based in reality, they are based in fear, and remind yourself of the areas where you have excelled.
There’s always room for improvement in every aspect of your life, but there’s no room for constant negative self-talk.
