My question for all is;
What is your traditional food for this day?
For us Dutch it is Oliebollen and appelflappen
The Oliebol is dough with raisins and deepfried.
A strong tradition in the Netherlands.
This is actually blown over to America in the very past when the Dutch came over. Now known as the donut of today (doughnut). Over the years the form changed and raisins are left out.
The appelflap is a slice of apple, with cinnamon and sugar, covered with batter and deepfried.
It all is served with powdered sugar (icing) represents snow.
My dad used to cook this in the garage, no oil damp in the house. Spread out on news paper to cool off and leak the oil off. My mum was busy with the dough early in the morning. It had to rise 2 times over.
