Make the customer the hero
Nelson Mandela has been quoted as saying, we do no one a favor by “hiding our light” or “pretending to be smaller than we are.” Yet when it comes time to let people know what we can do to help them, it can be very uncomfortable to share our strengths. Service businesses offer a solution to someone’s problem. Their lives will be better if they can take care of it and move on.
People who need your service will be glad you shared. Solving this problem or taking a step in the right direction will make them feel like a hero, if only to themselves, their family, or their coworkers. If only for just a moment.
Don’t think about yourself or allow it to be awkward. People who don’t need your service won’t notice or remember your words. If you showcase your strengths you will find someone who doesn’t know what you know. You will get an opportunity to help someone win the day and be a hero in their own life.
