This frustrations chat space is a place where we can talk about frustrations we might not want to share with our team. While it’s important to be honest and vulnerable, sometimes it’s best to work through our doubts with people who aren’t depending on us. Let’s get acquainted by sharing books, movies or other resources that have helped us get through difficult times.
My favorite business book of all time is Good to Great by Jim Collins. He writes about what he calls the Stockdale Paradox, named after a famous admiral who survived a long stint as a POW in Vietnam. The soldiers who survived the prison camp and the CEOs in Jim’s study who led unremarkable companies to greatness all had one thing in common.
The survivors were able to retain faith that they would prevail in the end, regardless of the difficulties facing them at the moment. They confronted the most brutal facts of their current reality and kept going. Jim summarizes the Stockdale Paradox in a 6-minute YouTube video at https://youtu.be/GvWWO7F9kQY?si=iWlbx2pvc8_SEj_C.
