Quiet on Skool
I put that my community is "Daily Dose" in my title and I'd really like it to be that way. However, on Tuesday I tripped over and fell pretty hard in our yard. A rogue piece of pallet wood that had become detached from the pallet fell down in front of me, I must have just caught it and knocked it down with my boot while walking past it. Anyway, it took my legs out and with already doing my no nonsense power walk so it floored me hard and fast. Not the excitement I'm looking for in my life! 😂 Most of my body hurts, I haven't broken anything but the bruises are not very pretty. I'm going to be 40 this year and in that moment I felt a bit old! I was unable to get up off the floor straight away. Business doesn't stop for a hurty! I went to work all day next day for a full shop day but luckily I'm off work today. It's my husband's birthday but he's at work all day. So rest for me today. Have you had something happened that made you feel older, made you feel a bit more vulnerable in the moment?

Some solid knowledge from the 90s!
When it comes to gardening… old really is gold 🌹 The basics don’t change. If anything, the best knowledge is the stuff that’s been passed down, tried, tested, and trusted over generations. This morning I braved a UK car boot sale in 0°C (yes, really 🥶). Once I got over the shock of voluntarily walking around in that cold, I struck gold… A 50p bargain 📚 I picked up The Rose Expert by Dr D G Hessayon – an absolute classic. Proof that the weather doesn’t stop people flogging their stuff… and it doesn’t stop gardeners hunting for wisdom either 😄 There’s something really comforting about these old-school gardening books – no trends, no fluff, just solid advice that still works decades later. Honestly, one of my favourite finds in a long time 🌿 Tell me your most recent car boot bargain!

Gardening: Unplanned Bargain Blooms!
When visiting my local garden centre today I came across some bargains on some bulbs! Yes, we are a few days after December which is the recommended month for planting, for some, and others said November. I suppose it's worth a shot! After finding these for just £1.50 each on the stand at the seed and bulb section, I said to my husband we better get a basket! It dawned on me, that I have to plant these now if I want any chance of getting some beautiful blooms in spring 🌼 This is the first time I have tried the lasagna method of laying the bulbs at different depths within the pots and they bloom at different times. I wanted to document what was in each pot so I can look like I know what I'm doing. "Oh yes, that's an Allium Venus" 😂 I will say to my friends when they compliment the beauty thats going to spring up from the pot. I'll know because I've numbered each pot and I have my photos as reference cards. It will help until I've learned! Bulbs will bloom and then go on to produce 1 or more Daughter bulbs beside them, if all goes well, I plan to keep these combinations and upgrade the pots each year. I'm so excited to have alliums! They have always captured my attention whenever I've seen them and now I have them for the grand total of £3! We can revisit these in the next few months and I'll update on their progress. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 Tell me about your bulbs that you have planted for this year, what are you most looking forward to seeing sping up in your garden?

Pets or Plants... Or both like me?
Hello and welcome to Pets & Plants: Daily Dose 🌿🐾 This space is all about the small, everyday moments that come with caring for pets and plants. I run a pets and garden shop, so I’ll be sharing little snippets from real shop life — pets, aquatics, and the simple routines that keep everything healthy and happy. Including insider business experiences. Alongside that, I’ll be sharing my own growing journey with plants, veg, cut flowers, and houseplants — what’s thriving, what’s just starting out, and what I’m learning along the way. Nothing polished, just real life. I learn new things everyday with plants! There’s no pressure here. I’ll post most days when I can, sharing little bits as they happen, and you’re very welcome to join in whenever it suits you. To start us off, reply with a photo or a few words about one pet or plant that made you smile today 🌿🐾
