⏱️ SERMORELIN: WHY BEDTIME AND EMPTY-STOMACH TIMING COME UP
Sermorelin shows up a lot in growth-hormone talk, and two timing rules come with it almost every time: bedtime, and an empty stomach. Here's what those mean in plain English.
WHAT IT IS
Sermorelin is a short copy of the front end of GHRH, the signal your brain already sends to tell your pituitary to release growth hormone. It was sold as Geref and FDA-approved in 1997 for kids with growth-hormone deficiency. The brand was pulled from sale around 2008 for business reasons. In 2013 the FDA said that was not because of safety or effectiveness problems. Today it mainly shows up through compounding.
GHRH VS GHRP, IN ONE LINE
• GHRH-type (like Sermorelin): copies the brain's "release GH" signal.
• GHRP-type (like Ipamorelin): uses a different receptor that also bumps GH release.
People often stack one of each. That is a community pattern, not a required pair from a label.
WHAT PEOPLE USE IT FOR
• Supporting the body's own nighttime GH pulse
• Sleep and recovery talk in adult wellness settings
• A gentler entry point compared with taking growth hormone itself
WHAT THE RESEARCH ACTUALLY SHOWS
• The old pediatric trials used a once-daily bedtime injection. Evidence level for that labeled use in kids with GHD: Strong (historical approval + trials).
• Adult anti-aging and wellness use is mostly clinic and community practice on top of that older pharmacology. Evidence level for adult wellness goals: Early to Anecdotal.
• There is no current FDA-approved Sermorelin product on the market for adults.
HOW IT'S COMMONLY RUN
Here's the standard schedule we reference in the community:
• Vial: 10 mg
• BAC water to reconstitute the whole vial: 2 ml
• Dose: 250 mcg (5 units on a 1 ml syringe)
• Timing: PM (before bed)
• Frequency: Monday–Friday
• Cycle: 8 weeks on, 8 weeks off
Stack lessons in the classroom can use a different schedule, so always follow the specific stack you're running.
WHY BEDTIME COMES UP
Your biggest natural GH pulse usually hits in the first stretch of deep sleep. The old Geref pediatric regimen was given at bedtime for that reason. Matching the shot to that window is the main timing idea in the research, not a forum invention.
WHY "EMPTY STOMACH" COMES UP
A meal, especially carbs, raises insulin, and insulin can blunt a GH pulse. A lot of clinics and members wait a couple of hours after the last meal before the bedtime shot. That empty-stomach habit is common practice. It is not as strongly locked to a public FDA label as the bedtime timing was.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Is Sermorelin the same as CJC-1295? No. Both are GHRH-family ideas, but CJC-1295 (especially with DAC) lasts much longer. Sermorelin is short-acting, which is why people talk about nightly dosing.
Can you take it in the morning instead? Some people do. The research tradition and the old labeled use point to bedtime because that is when the big natural pulse happens.
Is it the same as taking HGH? No. Sermorelin asks your pituitary to release more of your own GH. Direct HGH replaces the hormone itself.
BOTTOM LINE
Bedtime timing comes from real research and the old labeled use. Empty-stomach timing is a common clinic and community habit meant to avoid a meal blotting out the pulse. Short-acting GHRH signal, not the same thing as injecting growth hormone.
This is research education only, not medical advice.
