“‘Behavior is communication.’
Okay… but what happens when the communication becomes unsafe?
When a child is hitting.Throwing chairs.Hurting peers.Hurting staff.Destroying classrooms.Constantly dysregulated.
Do we continue decoding the behavior?Do we increase support?Do we set firmer boundaries?Do we remove the child from the environment?Can all of those exist at the same time?
This is one of the hardest conversations in Early Childhood Education because safety and compassion must coexist.
