Welcome to Parents Guide to Youth Sports
If you are here, it probably means you care deeply about your child and want to make sure you are doing right by them in youth sports. You may be choosing a team, thinking about switching programs, or just trying to understand whether what you are seeing is normal. This group exists to help parents get clear, honest, independent guidance about youth sports. We are not affiliated with any gym, club, or organization. There are no sales pitches here. The goal is simply to help families find the right environment for their kids to grow, stay confident, and develop in a healthy way. A little about me. I am a parent of kids in competitive youth sports who went through the same confusion, pressure, and second guessing many of you are experiencing now. I created this group because I could not find a place where parents could get real guidance without hype or hidden agendas. To get started, please introduce yourself below. Share your child’s age, sport, and what you are currently trying to figure out. That will help us understand your situation and point you in the right direction. We are glad you are here.

Most people misunderstand burnout.
Burnout isn’t caused by kids training too much. It’s caused by kids feeling trapped or stuck. There are really only two reasons young athletes burn out: 1. They’re doing a sport they didn’t truly choose. 2. They want to be there, but they stop improving, so the work feels pointless. Hard training doesn’t kill motivation. Lack of progress, challenge, or ownership does. A kid who chooses the sport and gets better will keep showing up. A kid who feels forced or stagnant will quietly check out, even if their schedule is light. If you’re worried about burnout, don’t count hours. Ask: Does my child still want this? Are they still growing That’s the real line between healthy commitment and burnout. Curious, have you seen this play out with your own kid or team?
