Understanding Range as a Pad Holder
Most trainers get range completely wrong.
Here's why:
Problem 1: They don't understand range themselves If this is you, hit up our live coaching section and go through the fundamentals first.
Problem 2: Range clash Trainer works off their range. Client works off their range. Now you're both pushing forward and everything gets cramped.
The Solution: YOU are the range.
Use your body as the range reference.
Force your client to work off YOU.
Client reaching? Don't push pads forward.
Tell them: "Step forward with your jab."
Client too close?
Tell them: "Step back. Get your range right."
They work around you. You dictate range.
When you move forward - they create space.
When you move back - they close distance.
Use yourself as the range finder.
They adjust to you.
That's how they learn distance control, one of the most important things in boxing.
Hope that helps.
