Outside the box
Someone encouraged me to share more videos. I never took lessons or studied theory. However I have learned to think outside the box. I wrote this when I retired. I don't believe it could be played in standard tuning without capos and without playing over the top and playing with the side of my thumb. I love the melody, And it does get kind of long. Sorry about that. 🙃. Sometimes when I compose a song it takes me 2 months or more to learn how to play It . I get lost in my own rabbit hole sometimes. I use an EBOW at the end. .https://www.youtube.com/v/x_mrOjjcKy8
Fender Strat
I was using a Squire telecaster for about 2 years. That was the sound I needed playing in a multi genre band. For the money, the guitar was okay. About 3 or 4 months ago I bought a real fender Stratocaster with a maple neck and Seymour Duncan pickups. Not a common guitar, but it does give you the ability to go from a clean to a dirty sound. This model actually has locking tuners. Extremely easy to change strings, no revolutions necessary. Playing regular 3-hour gigs, I rarely have to retune. The squire on the other hand, I needed to check constantly. It was probably the inexpensive tuning machines on it.
27 String guitar, played by the man who built it
here is my friend Keith Medley playing a 27 string guitar that he built. . Beautiful and mind blowing. He was an engineer at Gibson in Nashville.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lo5mvTfYSQY&list=RDsKbrycmEGjU&index=2
DADGAD PLAYING OVER THE TOP
MIGHT LOOK HARD, BUT ONCE YOU GET USED TO IT, IT OPENS DOORS TO INTERESTING VOICINGS AND WILL EXPAND YOU REACH. I ONLY USE THIS TECHNIQUE WHEN PLAYING IN DADGAD I CALL THIS SONG "SAFE DISTANCE" BECAUSE I FELL LIKE I AM IN A SAFE PLACE WHEN I PLAY IT
DADGAD PLAYING OVER THE TOP
Recording acoustic guitar or anything
A little trick I was taught that works on finger style guitars and vocals also when recording. Double the track and set one track .15 milliseconds to the positive and set the other .15 milliseconds to the negative. PAN one slightly to the left and the other slightly to the right. This will give you a nice thick sound without using any effects.
