Have you ever heard of Alpha Gal Syndrome?
ALPHA GAL SYNDROME (AGS)
**** RED MEAT ALLERGY ****
As part of a discussion about Alpha-Gal syndrome we need to sort out fact from fiction. As Dr. Berry pointed out, people tend to panic before getting the facts.
To that end I wanted to do a deep dive into AGS. Exactly what is it, what causes it, is it permanent, are there cures? Does everyone who’s bitten by a lonestar tick going to get AGS? If you test positive for the AGS antibodies does it mean you have AGS?
These are important questions to be addressed. In the links section I included traditional research links as well as a list of YouTube videos on the subject including a great one from Dr. Ken D. Berry.
EXACTLY WHAT IS ALPHA-GAL SYNDROME?
Alpha-gal syndrome (AGS), also known as alpha-gal allergy or red meat allergy, is a serious, potentially life-threatening allergic condition triggered by the sugar molecule galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose (alpha-gal). This molecule is found in most mammals (like cows, pigs, sheep) but not in humans or birds/fish. cdc.gov
Causes
It typically develops after a bite from certain ticks, most commonly the lone star tick (Amblyomma americanum) in the United States. The tick’s saliva introduces alpha-gal into the bloodstream, which can sensitize the immune system in some people, leading it to produce IgE antibodies against alpha-gal. cdc.gov
• Not everyone bitten by a lone star tick develops AGS.
• Other ticks (in different regions) can also trigger it.
• Further tick bites can worsen the allergy by increasing antibody levels. my.clevelandclinic.org
Symptoms
Reactions are often delayed, starting 2–6 hours (sometimes up to 10 hours) after eating mammalian meat or exposure to other alpha-gal sources. This delay can make diagnosis tricky. mayoclinic.org
Common symptoms include:
• Hives, itching, or flushing
• Swelling (lips, face, throat, eyelids)
• Wheezing, shortness of breath, or cough
• Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, or heartburn
• Dizziness, fainting, or in severe cases, anaphylaxis (a life-threatening reaction with airway constriction and blood pressure drop) my.clevelandclinic.org
Some people experience mainly gastrointestinal symptoms without skin reactions.
Triggers
• Red meats: Beef, pork, lamb, venison, goat, bison, etc.
• Other mammalian products: Dairy (milk, cheese), gelatin (in some foods, medications, or capsules), glycerin, and certain medications or medical products (e.g., heparin, some vaccines).
• Exposure can also occur through personal care products or other items containing mammalian-derived ingredients. alphagalinformation.org
Safe options generally include poultry (chicken, turkey), fish, seafood and eggs.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis usually involves:
• Clinical history of delayed reactions after meat consumption.
• Blood test for alpha-gal-specific IgE antibodies.
• Sometimes skin prick tests or elimination diets. mayoclinic.org

Possible cures or treatment
*************
News segments on SAAT (Soliman Auricular Allergy Treatment), a specialized auricular (ear) acupuncture technique. Patients report life-changing results, such as eating steak days after treatment with no reaction. Acupuncturists claim high success rates in putting AGS into remission.
: In-depth discussion on AGS causes, symptoms, geography, prevalence, and potential management/cures (including awareness of alternatives like SAAT).
SAAT as a revolutionary food allergy treatment, with mentions of alpha-gal cases.
Dr. Ken D Berry: Live discussion debunking some hype, clarifying testing/diagnosis, noting that not all positive tests mean clinical allergy, and that symptoms aren’t always permanent. Mentions patient experiences with SAAT and natural remission over time.
This is the main “finding” across most videos. It is a patented, single-session auricular acupuncture method using one small needle in the ear. Proponents claim it reprograms the immune response.
• A 2021 retrospective study (137 patients) reported ~96% symptom remission for AGS (meat/dairy allergy) with no adverse effects noted. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
• Many patients anecdotally resume mammalian meat consumption shortly after treatment.
• It is presented as low-risk and potentially “life-changing,” with some calling it a remission tool rather than a guaranteed permanent cure.
• Availability: Offered by trained acupuncturists/chiropractors (search for certified SAAT practitioners). Cost is relatively low compared to ongoing management.

Deliberate release theory
***********
We’ve all heard the claims that Bill Gates genetically altered ticks to make them carriers of AGS to force people to give up beef to save the planet and make his investments in fake meat profitable.
In this day and age people may be tempted to accept this at face value. I wanted to dig deeper on this whole subject and get at the real truth.
So, I asked GROK this question
“Is there credible evidence to support that lonestar ticks were genetically modified to carry alpha-gal syndrome and released into the wild in an effort to save the planet from cows?”
++++ Grok quote ++++
Alpha-gal syndrome (AGS) is a real, potentially serious allergy to red meat (beef, pork, lamb, etc.) and sometimes mammalian products like dairy or gelatin. It develops in some people after bites from certain ticks, primarily the lone star tick (Amblyomma americanum) in the US. cdc.gov
• The tick’s saliva contains the sugar molecule galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose (alpha-gal), which is common in most mammals but not humans (or old-world primates).
• A bite can trigger the immune system to produce IgE antibodies to alpha-gal, leading to delayed allergic reactions (often 3–6 hours after eating meat).
• Not everyone bitten develops it; risk factors and exact mechanisms are still being studied. cdc.gov
This has been documented in medical literature for years, with cases linked to lone star ticks (and some other tick species elsewhere in the world). Cases have risen as lone star tick populations expand northward and westward in the US, driven by factors like warmer winters, deer population growth, and habitat changes—not deliberate release. vcuhealth.org
Origins of the Conspiracy Claim
The idea that lone star ticks were genetically modified and released to curb beef consumption (for “saving the planet”) appears to stem from a mix of:
• Misinformation and conflation: Bill Gates Foundation funding supported research on gene-editing cattle ticks (a different species, Rhipicephalus microplus) to control livestock diseases in developing countries—not lone star ticks or to induce allergies. verificat.cat
• Jokes taken seriously: PETA posted April Fools’ content about the “benefits” of alpha-gal or spreading ticks. Some later treated it as a real plan. en.wikipedia.org
• Broader tick conspiracy trends: Claims often blend with unrelated GMO mosquito or insect research, climate-driven tick range expansion, and anti-meat/environmental narratives. instagram.com
• Hypothetical academic discussion: A few bioethics papers have speculated about AGS as a “moral bioenhancer” to reduce meat-eating, but these are philosophical arguments, not evidence of any program or release. onlinelibrary.wiley.com
Why This Doesn’t Hold Up
• Natural biology: Lone star ticks naturally carry alpha-gal in their saliva (confirmed in studies analyzing tick salivary glands). Ticks don’t synthesize it the same way mammals do, but it’s present. No genetic engineering is needed or evidenced. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
• Wrong tick species: Conspiracy versions often confuse lone star ticks (the allergy vector) with cattle ticks targeted in livestock research.
• No release evidence: No whistleblowers, documents, genetic analyses of ticks showing modifications, or epidemiological patterns inconsistent with natural spread and climate/habitat factors.
• Established science: AGS was recognized through standard medical investigation (e.g., links noted in Australia/Europe earlier, then US cases tied to lone star distribution). Cases cluster where ticks are expanding naturally. vcuhealth.org
++++ End Quote ++++
MY CONCLUSIONS:
So yes, it’s real. It’s serious. However I do believe it’s probably curable for most people. The SAAT Acupuncture treatment looks very promising. If I ever contracted AGS I would definitely try it.
Switching to non mammalian meat and eggs should, over time put AGS into remission. Since AGS is actually an autoimmune disease, treatments for autoimmune disease could all be helpful in this situation.
