Climbing Everest in North Berwick – For Our Young People
Most people who dream of climbing Everest picture ice, ropes, and oxygen tanks. I’ll be doing it a little differently… on my doorstep. This year, I’ve set myself a Misogi – a once-a-year, life-defining challenge that pushes me far beyond my comfort zone. Inspired by Jesse Itzler’s philosophy, I wanted something that would test me physically, mentally, and emotionally – but also give back to the community I love. So here it is: I’ll be climbing North Berwick Law enough times to reach the height of Mount Everest – 8,849 metres. To put that in perspective: The Law strava segment at just 143 metres. Which means I’ll need to climb it 64 times, up and down. That’s over 9,000 metres of climbing. It will be long. It will be gruelling. And there will be moments where I’ll want to quit. But that’s the point. Because for me as a Dad of 3, this challenge is about more than just the climb. I’m doing it to raise money for the North Berwick Youth Project – an incredible organisation that supports our young people, giving them a safe place, positive role models, and opportunities that can change the course of their lives. While it is a local charity I am a New Zealander so hope I can inspire more young people around the world. So while I’ll be battling fatigue on the hill, I’ll know exactly why I’m doing it. For the next generation. If you can, please donate as the goal is to raise a £1 for every metre climbed. Every pound will go directly to supporting young people. Together, we can make sure they climb their own mountains, whatever they may be. Thank you for your support – it means the world. If you fancy a walk up the Law on the 3rd and 4th of October I would appreciate the chat You can book in here a time slot into my google doc.
