STOP MAKING YOUR PAIN YOUR IDENTITY.
I know victimhood can feel strangely comfortable.
It gives you an explanation for everything. It gives you somewhere to put the blame. It can even make you feel safe because you already know the story: this happened to me, therefore this is who I am.
But what if the story you keep repeating about yourself is the very thing keeping you trapped inside it?
At some point, you have to take that coat off.
The childhood wounds.
The betrayal.
The rejection.
The disappointment.
The things people did to you.
The things you did because you were hurting.
They can be part of your story without becoming your identity.
Neville talked constantly about the state you occupy. You can keep returning to the state of the person who was hurt, abandoned, rejected, powerless or unlucky, and your mind will keep finding evidence that confirms it.
There is another possibility.
You can become curious about who you are underneath all those labels.
What would remain if you stopped introducing yourself to yourself through everything that happened to you?
That person is worth discovering.
Take off the coat.
You might be surprised by what was underneath it all along.
What identity would you have to release if you stopped seeing yourself as the victim of your past?
